What to Have for Lunch? Try Peaches and Banana

If you’re looking for something to eat for lunch, try peaches and a banana. Not only will they fill you up, you’ll pack in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants and still not add significantly to your weight. Not bad if you are like me, not so young and watching everything you eat.

Why not? After all, the body is not what it used to be, a food grinding machine for a sixteen-year-old boy – or twenty-six, for that matter.

Cheeseburgers or agosi/melon soup with mashed sweet potatoes are delicious food, but you don’t always have to eat them – unless, of course, you’re lucky enough to be in manual labor.

But I’m not so lucky, because I do mostly sedentary work. Not that I don’t like my job, but I wish it came with some real physical activities – enough to sweat and maintain weight all the time, but not so much that it tires the ankles, knees and bones. I’ll need these when I’m ninety, like my non-jogger friend. Well, that’s by the way.

For starters, peaches and bananas complement each other like water and cement. In combination, they will satisfy the hunger and satisfy the appetite.

If you’re wondering where to get fresh peaches and bananas, stores like Big Y, Stop, and Shop are my favorites. Find a store near you where you can easily get your supply of fresh peaches and bananas.

Until I started writing this article, I did not know that peaches can refresh the body, the face, the appearance of the skin, and maybe even slow down the aging process. You don’t need any more reasons to include peaches in your menu, do you?

One particular afternoon I was looking for something to eat for lunch instead of almonds. I usually skip lunch because I think lunch is not important, especially if you are like me, with a sedentary lifestyle. I sit all day, get up every now and then to stretch, but quickly sit down in a chair.

The point is I don’t do much so I don’t deserve much food. But some days, when I felt hungry (not without guilt), I would drive to a nearby store and buy a bag or two of almonds. I immediately went back to the car, my finger would tear open the small plastic bag and clean nuts, three or five at a time, until I was done. After that I will face the second deck and take a hit on it just like I did the first one. Each bag was 130 calories, so all together this little snack gave me 260 calories.

Most of the time my hunger would disappear, allowing me to continue throughout the day with my sedentary lifestyle of sitting on the stool, occasionally getting up if I needed to emphasize a point when talking to parents and their children, doing my best to alleviate, even if only temporarily, their physical distress and sometimes the psyche.

do not get me wrong. There are times when I will go from one consultation room to another, across the short corridor to the refrigerator to select a vaccine or reach out to rummage through the wall cabinets for a needle, syringe or gloves.

No one in their right mind would call any of these activities anything but stability, for which no heavy amount of food would be needed, like sweet potato or curry, or rice or goat meat or soup or chips or hamburger or sandwiches. So I tried to keep my lunch very simple and limited to almonds.

So, that afternoon, when I was looking for something to eat instead of almonds, I settled on banana and peaches. Well, it’s not that I’ve never had a banana or peaches, but I never knew it could be such a good substitute for my two 260 calorie almond packs. Somewhere in my mind, banana and peaches have been hiding in plain sight ever since I saw my son Jermaine bite into a string of bananas and my daughter Amy bite into a block of peaches.

“Is that all the peaches you bought?” I asked Amy as I saw her eating a large peach. ”Yes, father, sorry,” she said.

The next day at lunch time, instead of buying two packages of almonds at the corner store, I went to the ‘stop and shop’ food store and picked two ripe but firm peaches and a bunch of four ripe and firm bananas.

Back in my car I looked under the seats and found a half full bottle of water with which I washed the peaches. I placed one peach on a clean napkin in the front passenger seat and held the other, rechecking for dents and softness, which I don’t like in fruit.

Satisfied, my teeth bit into it and took a chunk of juicy peach. What a delicious, refreshing, slightly spicy taste! The velvety feel of the skin made me want to hold the fruit a little longer, but hunger got the better of me.

Peaches are nutritious, with lots of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. I don’t think they get the respect they deserve among the fruit family.

Banana is a very popular and ubiquitous fruit, so there is no need to discuss it in detail, just to say that it takes me time to pick my banana, because I want it just right, not too ripe or underripe, just ripe. , and strong and easy to peel from the top, not runny. Like peaches, bananas contain vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

As usual the banana did not disappoint, and I ate two of the four. Shortly after my hunger passed I began to suffer from post-gluttony depression.

Maybe I was overindulging in food, sweet food that I still remember my grandmother warning me against when I was a young child. I ran away to stay with her in my village in Akkowa, because I wanted to escape my parents’ scrutiny. My mom in particular would come to my room so often to check on me and ask, “Are you okay, son?” Even though all she wanted to know was who I was hanging out with. Grandma never bothered with any of this; She would bring me, her eighteen-year-old grandson, some bitter leaf soup with dried fish: bitter leaf soup, cooked with dried fish.

Oh, I miss grandma. Forgive me for digressing, but I thought you should understand the kind of person I am – at least a little of what I was as a child.

Forced as I had become, I added up the calories and cost of two peaches and two bananas. A peach, the size I ate, was about 70 calories, two of them, 140 calories. Let’s say a giant banana contains 150 calories, two will contain 300 calories. Together, two large peaches and two huge bananas add up to about 440 calories; Not that expensive either – all for just $2.00.

Peaches and bananas fill the stomach better than two small packages of almonds. The next time you’re wondering what to eat for lunch, try two peaches and two bananas. I promise you will enjoy them. If you’re keeping weight off, don’t feel guilty; You ate a healthy meal and consumed only about 500 calories.
